Yale freshman Matt Gaudet has scored 35 goals through 14 games. This twister, or crippler, against Penn is a classic box finish.
In the past, I've encouraged our Box Travel athletes to shoot more twisters in the spring. Not only is the shot incredibly deceptive but Pittsburgh field goalies never see them. Imagine never playing Major League Baseball and then stepping into the batters box and trying to hit a knuckleball. Good luck.
Apparently, Matt Gaudet, in a post game interview, said that American goalies in general don't see twisters. Based on the Penn goalie's reaction to this shot, he's absolutely right.
I always judge the quality of a shot based on how off balanced a goalie is after the ball crosses the goal line. Watch the goalie lean to his left and the ball finishes on the near side here.
Develop your twister this winter. Join our Box Travel Program for our fifth season in 2018-2019. Athletes from Ohio, Michigan, Maryland, Virginia, and Canada have played with the team. We already have a California native committed to play with us this season. Pittsburgh natives have gone on to D1, D2, and D3 programs. Evaluations begin in July. Click here to register.
